THE MARIAN PRAYER OF POPE JOHN PAUL......

No single person or group has a monopoly on the defense and promotion of life. These are everybody’s task and responsibility....in the Third Millennium. The challenge facing us is an arduous one: only the concerted efforts of all those who believe in the value of life can prevent a setback of unforeseeable consequences for civilization. "John Paul II, Evangelism Vitae (no.91)

"Our Lady of Mount Carmel Parish, a community in the Whitman/Pennsport sections of the City of Philadelphia, seeks to live in the way, truth and life of Jesus Christ. With the same gratitude born from the faith and courage of Mary our Mother we strive to build community with healing, hope,  tolerance and forgiveness. Through our sacramental, educational and social ministries we seek to deepen our awareness as followers of Jesus; being a people filled with compassion who regard the dying, the poor and those most in need as the sign of Christ among us. We strive to improve the quality of life for all our neighbors regardless of nationality or belief, and we commit to seek out effective ministries to our youth and young adults who are the future of our parish. We pray for the guidance and protection of the Holy Spirit that we may all be counted among the saints when they go marching into paradise."

Accepted by the Parish, Solemnity of Pentecost, May 30, 2004
